Clough-Hanson Gallery Exhibition Highlights the Exceptional Work of Rhodes Art Professor David McCarthy

A new exhibition celebrating the work of Dr. David McCarthy, professor of art and art history at Rhodes College, will be on display from Jan. 30 through March 28 in the college’s Clough-Hanson Gallery. McCarthy has taught at Rhodes for more than three decades, during which he has developed a body of scholarship and a teaching philosophy that demonstrate how artists reflect and shape the times in which they live.

Recording Artist and Minister Kirk Whalum to Deliver Baccalaureate Address, Architect Jane Cady Rathbone to Receive Honorary Degree

The Baccalaureate Service of the 170th Session of Rhodes College will be held on campus May 10, followed by Commencement on May 11. Rev. Kirk Whalum, an award-winning recording artist and an ordained minister, will deliver the Baccalaureate address. Jane Cady Rathbone, a principal of the Hanbury architectural and design firm, will receive the Honorary Doctor of Humanities degree at Commencement.

Lynx Win Five Championships

Over the course of April 25-28, 2019, Rhodes College athletics participated in 10 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) tournaments/championships. The Lynx won five team championships—women’s golf, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s track and field, women’s track and field. There also were six individual champions and two relay champions in track and field.

Matt Dean Named Rhodes College Director of Athletics

Matt Dean has been interim director of athletics since October 2018. Over the course of his now 28-year career at Rhodes, he served as head women’s basketball team coach for 15 years, becoming the college’s winningest coach in program history.
