Rhodes College has enjoyed a tradition of athletic excellence since its founding in 1848. This standard, set from the very first time the Lynx took the field more than a century ago, continues today.
In 1996, to honor the athletes who built the foundation on which the school’s current athletic success is built, Rhodes established the The Haygood Athletic Hall of Fame, named for James “Jimmy” Haygood, the college’s head football coach and athletic director in the 1930s. Since that time, 13 teams and 127 individuals have been enshrined as the most elite student-athletes in the history of the college. Although COVID-19 cut short the 2020 and 2021 seasons for many of our athletes, the Hall of Fame is back on track and will induct a new class during Homecoming 2022.
